Gearing Up

So I sit here at the tail end of my Thursday workday. The summer heat made a slight comeback today, after a few days of somewhat chilly nights.

Lost episode 2 is out right now. I'll be watching that as soon as I finish my mendokusai eikaiwa class. Along with a beer, some Lost should make up for my wasted Thursday evenings.

It's Tachibana Matsuri this Saturday and that means one of the last chances to have chicken in a cup and meat on a stick before the festivals are packed up for the winter. That'll be a good one.

Got the new Herbaliser album as well as the new Atmosphere album today. Stay tuned as I give those a listen.

The Pizza Trifecta

Another relaxing long weekend spent in the city doing the usual rounds. Managed to have pizza for every meal over the weekend incuding the lactose-loaded cheese stuffed-crust Meat Paradise from Pizza Hut. By Sunday afternoon, the long weekend's worth of beer and stuffed crusts caught up with me and my belly. My stomach's still feeling a bit jelly at this point.

Anyways, the weather's cooling down finally. I can sleep with the window open again without tossing and turning in my own sweat.

Fall Festival season is upon us and we have back-to-back weekends' worth of them. First up is the Tachibana "Smash 'em Shrines" Festival coming up this weekend. At this festival, shrines are pulled and smashed into one another, over and over and over. Its the destruction derby of Japanese Buddhist festivals. And then next week we have the gruelling Hiwasa "Lift a 2 Tonne Shrine With Your Friends" Festival. Its alot like re-enacting Jesus carrying the cross, but minus the whips and you do it with your friends. Its as much fun as it is painful.

And That's That

Sitting here on this sweaty Thursday morning, I'm already at the last day of my work week. Tomorrow is the Autumnal Equinox, a day important enough to the Japanese that it warrants a day off. Sweet. Just need to get through this day till another long weekend. Pizza and beer anyone?

There's been a tonne of games being released online, and I've managed to snag quite a few of them. Winning Eleven 9 is awesome and Burnout Revenge is crack. Still to burn I Love Katamari. I'll tell you about that one later.

The iPod Top 5 has been updated. I'll usually update that shit weekly, though it depends on whether new and good shit is being released/leaked. Hooked on that Minstrel Show, and you're probably a cold-hearted bastard if you don't like that John Legend Live album.

The Chosen One From The Land Of The Frozen Sun

So the Common show in Osaka last Friday night was off the hook. Getting to the gig a bit early, me and my boy Andy found a little subterranean yaki-tori shop that served up jumbo 500yen beers which we loaded up on before hitting the gig. Still being a bit early for the start of the show, it allowed us to work up a nice buzz before Common came on. Common performed for just under two hours, mainly doing tracks from "Be." Club Quattro makes for a up-close-and-personal show experience since the place is laid out as if a pub and a small auditorium had a bastard love child. Definitely a great place for any act to play...

On With The Show, This Is It

Another work week. Another day with cancelled classes. Another day spent sitting at my desk. I made a break this morning to go home and play a little Winning Eleven 9 for about a half-hour. Lunch is next, so I think I'm due another footy break.

Friday is the big Common show in Osaka at Club Quattro. Can't wait for that.

"To the window. To the wall. Skeet skeetin."

Currently listening to:

Little Brother - The Minstrel Show

The new album from the North Carolina duo and their producer 9th Wonder is easily one of the best Hip Hop albums of the year. I'm willing to go out on a limb and say that its better than Common's Be (blasphemy!!) and Kanye's slighty over-rated, though still dope Late Registration.
And to add to the album's hype, their new single, "Lovin It" has apparently been deemed "too intelligent" for BET. Check out the article here.
Do yourself a favor and cop this album.

Beejapalooza is tomorrow!! Break yo self fool!

You Say Typhoon, I Say Bring It On

So, as I sit her at my desk at work with Typhoon #14 pelting the staffroom window with side-ways rain, I just realized I have to slip out of the building to go get some lunch. Oh well, them's the breaks.

I finished The Da Vinci Code last night after spending pretty much all day and night reading it, taking breaks of course to play Gran Turismo and eat curry.

mmm...curry. I'll think I'll be making some more tonight as I don't want some of my ingredients to spoil before I get a chance to use them.

Later,

Round and Round

Currently listening to Paul Wall - The People's Champ. A little Swisha House does a body good.

I'm back on my crack of the moment, Gran Turismo 4. Seems like with the end of this Season's run of Top Gear, I need to find my supercar fix elsewhere. And conveniently my PS2 is up to the challenge. I have my F-1 car currently B-Specing around while I write. Ahh, its back to those late nights, burning Playstation rubber.

Currently reading Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code. Quite good in fact. With Typhoon #14 due to hit tomorrow, I'll have pretty much all day to read the rest of it.

Got my tickets to the Common show in Osaka at Club Quattro next week. My boy Sig caught the show in Toronto back during Caribana, and had nuthing but good words bout Com' Sense. Off the hook, the Osaka show will be indeed.

And last but not least...

Beejapalooza: The Party in T-minus 5 days and counting.

I'm out til later.

All Good Things...

So I'm back after 4 weeks of Summer Vacation. After a month off that included Awa Odori, late night movie watching, marathon video game sessions, BBQs and beach parties, no bedtime and sleeping in, its back to the grind.

Beejapalooza is next week though. Buckle your belts.
