Distillery

Loss of sleep this week has been caused by two factors: Mario Kart DS and Harry Potter and The Order of the Phoenix. I discovered two things last week that turned up my play time on the DS. First, someone in my building is using an unsecured wireless router which allows me to play Mario Kart online over their internets. Second, I figured out how to connect my DS to the Wi Fi network (which was a challenge as my DS is all in Japanese). After a few random presses, I was online getting my ass handed to me in Mario Kart.
The fifth Harry Potter book has me up late as well which, as usual, is hard to put down. Once I get through that brick, I've gotta get me the latest one and I'll be all caught up.
Some other things in the Full Court News Distillery:

What up Manny Pacquiao for that brilliant fight on the weekend.

What up Kobe for dropping 81 in one game!

Peja for Artest! Now maybe my fantasy team can get back into it.

And lastly, Big Root at Bar Fly this Saturday. Its gonna be Big! If you're not there, you're probably a loser.

Later kids.

The Truth

After a week that included the Mid Year Seminar, Conbini golf and a big Friday night which ended with me passed out at the Underground, I'm sort of glad to be back in the grind of a regular work week.
I spent the weekend at home, under the kotatsu and got caught up on my TV and movie watching. Brokeback Mountain was bland, while I thought Elizabethtown was surprisingly good. I've discovered a new tv show called Braniac from the UK. Its the Top Gear of Science shows, if that means anything to you, but it reminds me of the Bill Nye the Science Guy show on PBS back in the 90's. Any show where they blow shit up on a regular basis is fine in my book. And the show that's like taking cocaine laced with speed is back...24! The bastard child of Chuck Norris and your momma, Jack Bauer, is back for one more season of terrorist-torturing, bomb-diffusing, yelling-in-yo-face mayhem. Jack Bauer is the truth.
Don't forget, this Saturday is the big Winter Jam at Bar Fly. Tickets are 1500yen in advance, 1700yen at the door.

Later kids,

Hectic

Busy week coming up for us here at the Full Court Press. Besides the usual load of classes, we have the Mid-Year Conference this Thursday and Friday and yours truly has been chosen to do a presentation on Thurday. Reminder to self: download and install Powerpoint.
This coming Saturday is also Burn's supper. The past two Burn's Nights have been drunken, peotry reciting fun and this one shouldn't disappoint. Reminder to self: find a poem to recite.
On Jan. 28 in the city, Ingrid's and Root Down are co-hosting the Winter Jam dance party, and I've been tapped to "DJ" the event. I've been messing around with VirtualDJ recently and if my laptop holds up and if I dont fuck up too much, it should be the shit.

It's lunch time and I'm hungry.

Later kids.

Guess Who's Bizzack

Happy New Year one and all. Australia was awesome. Simple as that. We got in and spent the first 2 days in Sydney seeing the sights and drinking the local beers. Then it was off to Brisbane where we spent 5 days over Christmas in the humid heat there. FYI, Qantas Airlines is the shit. We made it out to the Gold Coast on Xmas day and, with our rented car, we went to the Gold Coast and ate Australia's Best Pizza. It won a contest apparently.
On the 30th, we were back in Sydney for New Years. Our apartment in the suburb of Paramatta was bling, or swish as Andy would say, complete with dishes and utensils and washer and dryer. New Year's Eve in Sydney is probably the biggest spectacle I've ever been witness to. Millions of people gathered in downtown Sydney to drink and watch the most impressive fireworks show this side of a Nuclear test. Drinking in streets, cops on horseback, weed in the air...ah New Years in Australia. New Years Day was spent recovering, so we hunkered down in our pimp pad and made a roast chicken with all the fixings.
We then moved back into city centre for our last 2 nights. We feasted at the BBQ King Chinese restaurant, and boy, was it king! Bloated, we found a pub right around the corner from out hotel which was serving up $6.50 pitchers of beer and we went to town. We didn't wake up the next day till 2 or 3 in the afternoon.
Enough talk. I'll let the pictures speak for themselves. I hope your Holidays were as fun as mine...
